As I am new to owning a mustang and the car has got a very slow oil leak i just wondered (even though i'm sure this topic has been discussed to death) what oil everyone was using/would recommend
its in a 67 302. have seen the generic 'classic motor oil-20w50' but assumed this was for old MGs etc
thanks in advance

Halfords Classic 20W50 (comes in a green can) or the Millers 20W50 are good for older engines.

I've read on US forums that they use 10W40 and 15W50. I ran 10W40 during winter months, but, reverted back to 20W50 after advice from engine builders. Millers classic or Valvoline racing oil for me now. HTHs

As people have mentioned, you need an oil with ZDDP. Its an additive that has been removed from 99% of modern oils as it does not meet emissions regs. Modern engines have been designed to function without ZDDP but on older engines the Camshaft and followers will suffer as ZDDP is an essential part of keeping an oil film between metal to metal contacts. My engine bulilders have wiped lobes off the cams of small block fords and chevys on the dyno through not having ZDDP in the oil, and thats just in the 20 min running in period.

I use Valvoline VR1, as do most people who race these dinosaur motors.

I too have heard of many flat tappet engines having  lobes wiped off during cam break in, the most critical period. Real Stealsell a ZDDP additive which is well worth putting in your oil.
