Hello everyone,

My names Dan and i live here in good old blighty. Im 25 now, and since an early age of 15 or so i wanted a 1965, 1966 or 1967 Mustang coupe or fastback. Its come to the point where i am able to afford at least a decent coupe.

I have been trauling the us trader classics and ebay, along with some showrooms but have failed to find a decent stang. Well i lie there, as i did find one and agreed to a price of $15,500, but he sold it to someone else, even though he agreed to my offer. It was a 65 coupe A code in raven black which had been totally restored. It was my dream car. Never mind, just means i need to keep looking.

I Convert standard VW panel vans in to campers for a living, so im now starting to wonder weather i buy a car from the states, say california or Arizona (dry states), and restore it myself. I have meen looking at some 67 coupes for around $4,500 to $5,500 which are rust free but needs interior and paint and other obviouse repairs.

Any guidence on whats best to do, or any links to some nice coupes, as i dont think my budget stretches to a fastback. I do fancy the restoration route, as i would like to do it up in my own time. It would need to be a runner though.

Cheers Dan

Hello and welcome aboard.

I am sure the guys on here will give some good advice.

In comparison with some years ago, the exchange rate is not terribly good which makes acquiring parts for a restoration expensive.

The old adage of buying the best you can afford first still holds true, but if you are a coupe fan then you are at least starting from a more reasonable price base, as opposed to fastbacks or convertibles.

There was a swap meet at the weekend in Essex and this Mustang was for sale:-

for £7,750. Not sure if that is a reasonable price or not but in comparison with some of the pie in the sky prices that have been bandied about the past few years, it seemed good to me (but then again, I know little about Mustangs and think they are all way over-priced in the first place  Smiley).

Good luck with your search.

Is this any good.....This is what the ad says....

I have a beautiful 68 Mustang. The car is in great shape.

Rust Free, new floor panels, painted 6 years ago. Interior is new,

new seats, headliner, carpet. Original tin dashboard. The car now has V8

302 motor, with a 5 speed transmission, shifts beautiful. The Motor

has been rebuilt and has about 17,000 miles. Has holly carborator. This

is what I have done to the motor, motor is 40 over new pistons and rods.

Cam is performance ground. Motor is now a 306ci, 10: compression.

Car is from GA, purchased in Marrietta. The car was originally a 6 cylinder

3 speed car.

The car is also selling locally so i can end the action if i sell it.

The car is yellow with blck hood, and in ok condition. I spoke to him and he says no rust and new interior. He said he would accept $4500, as he needs the cash. Dont think its a number matcher, but its got a 5 speed and a 306 engine which were both rebuilt 6 years ago.

What do you all think???

Dan

to echo advice given by others on here, you should make sure the 6 cyl to v8 conversion has been done properly, should be 5 stud wheels, not 4. Not sure how much difference this makes but as its been said before I guess its significant

Dan,
I reckon the old timers, or err, the ones that have walked the worn path of classic mustang searching should post a kinda beginners guide list.
My first one would be.
Never buy the first mustang you view, but view you must or trust a friend to view for yiew. Azn  Unless you have seen at least one other mustang and the first one is better and still for sale.
Apart from that,  with your budget I would expect you to source a good car here in the UK.  Your in the market at a good time mate. Wink

The world's biggest telescope will be built in Hawaii. The device will be so powerful that it will allow scientists to see some 13 billion light years away and get a glimpse into the early years of the universe........But it still wont be able to read the for sale sign on the window of a Mustang at 10 feet!
